Unity Physics
“You hit brick but brick no hit back” -bolo yeung
Unity physics and how to touch something… and how to make it touch back…
Quick Review
Collision Detection – how to do the touching
Collsion Resolution – how to handle the touching, usually involves movement
Both Detection and Resolution are handled through the following primary components.
1. RigidBody
1. Collider
Collider
There are many Collider Component types
CircleCollider/SphereCollider – use this for rolling objects or projectiles. Ex: baseball, collision resolution for hitting a baseball.
CapsuleCollider – use this for smooth upright movement, Ex: because Players want to go up stairs for some reason
BoxCollider – use this for everything else…
MeshCollider – never use this…
Collider2D
Put 2D on the end of everyone of those.
Is that it? no…
Rigidbody
This is how things move.
But how?
Not like a softbody…
Put 2D on the end of it…
Exercise
Hand code the movement of an object to go from an arbitrary starting position to some position that is in direction 1,0,0 and 25 units away.
This is kinematic movement.
